If everything and everybody in Glass’ stories were made up, was what Glass did such a bad thing? Who did it hurt? What penalties did he face? Do you think they were adequate?
What Glass did was wrong. He wrote stories about things that were either completely or partially made up. This brings nothing but dishonesty to the readers of the magazine. It is fake news. It hurt the readers the most because they thought, for a long time, that what they were reading had been the truth. Glass faced no penalties at first. No one knew what he had been doing. Once his editor found out, he suspended him from the paper for two years. After his editor found out even more articles where Glass had been lying, he fired him completely. I believe these penalties were adequate. He was a compulsive liar and got what he deserved.
