Independently, read a short and engaging news story (choose your own or choose from these below). Answer in your blog: What is the headline? Who is on the byline? When was the article published? Why is this news? What are the news values? Is it a solid lede? How many sentences are in each paragraph? What information appears first? What information appears last?

The headline of this article reads, "How Golf Digest and College Students Helped Free a Man Wrongly Convicted of Murder". The byline is by Jacey Forin. The article is fairly recent as it was published on September 20, 2018. This is news because it talks about a court murder case from 1991 finally being resolved. The man who was the main interest of the story had been wrongly accused of murdering someone in 1991. He was never offered a true court trial so he and his family fought the government for many years until it finally paid off. Human interest is a strong news value used throughout this piece. The story definitely implies to emotions of a reader. Currency was another news value present in the story. This is a current event; it just happened a little over a week ago. I also thought there was little bit of novelty present in the article. I thought this mostly because you do hear about people being falsely accused in a court of law but, this followed the man's story on getting his freedom back. There are only about a few sentences in each paragraph. The background information is what is presented first. The information presented last sums up the entire article and gives a happy ending for the man in the story. It's almost like it's good closure.
